The Reformed Episcopal Church opened its 58th General Council in Richmond this week, gathering bishops, clergy, and lay delegates for worship and business at the Omni Hotel and Derbyshire Baptist Church. The council runs June 10-12 and is being hosted by the Diocese of the Central States, the REC’s youngest diocese.

The Program Committee report noted that the Diocese of the Central States was formed in 2008 amid continued church growth and that Bishop Daniel Morse served as its first missionary bishop. Bishop Peter Manto was installed as Bishop Ordinary in 2020 and later shepherded the diocese through the years of the pandemic. The diocese elected the Very Rev. Canon Jason Grote as bishop coadjutor in October 2024, and he was consecrated in June 2025.

The report said Bishop Grote was to be installed as the new Ordinary during the opening service of Holy Communion. The opening Eucharist also included the participation of Bishop Julian Dobbs, ACNA Provincial Dean, together with other bishops and clergy from across the Anglican Church in North America.

The committee expressed thanks to the Diocese of the Central States, local volunteers, and host congregations for their work in preparing for the council. It also thanked musicians, choir members, and worship leaders who assisted with the week’s liturgies.
