The Diocese of the Central States installed the Rt. Rev. Jason R. Grote as its new Bishop Ordinary during the opening Eucharist of the Reformed Episcopal Church’s 58th General Council in Richmond. The installation marked the close of a transition period that began with his election as bishop coadjutor in October 2024 and his consecration in June 2025.
According to the Program Committee report, Bishop Grote had been walking alongside Bishop Peter Manto during the transition season and was expected to build on the work of the diocese’s earlier leadership. The report described the diocese as continuing to grow since its formation in 2008, when the REC reorganized its missionary oversight across a wide geographic territory.
The report also noted that Bishop Peter Manto had served the diocese steadily through the pandemic years and beyond. The council’s opening service therefore became both a liturgical beginning and a diocesan milestone, gathering the Central States clergy and laity around a new ordinary as the council began its business.
